Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes faces a fitness test tomorrow to decide whether he can play at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Hornets shot stopper was taken off in last weekend’s draw against Middlesbrough with a back injury and head coach Walter Mazzarri still does not know if he will be fit to face the Cherries.

Mazzarri said: “Gomes tried also today during training but tomorrow is the decisive day for him not only for him but also for some other players.

“We will do some tests and tomorrow will be crucial to decide who is travelling.”

Wing-back Daryl Janmaat has been missing since suffering a groin injury against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day and his fitness will be assessed prior to this weekend’s clash.

Midfielder Tom Cleverley is also in line to make his first start since rejoining Watford on loan from Everton last week.

The Italian said: “Only Daryl Janmaat we will have to evaluate tomorrow but the other two for sure won’t be available [Isaac Success and Nordin Amrabat].”

Watford head to the Vitality Stadium on a six-game winless run in the Premier League having lost their last five away games. But Mazzarri is adamant his team are playing well and is convinced their performances will lead to improved results.

He said: “Our hope and way of thinking is always to win and gain a positive result but it’s true we’ve had negative results but I’m happy with the overall performances like against West Brom, Sunderland and Stoke City.

“It’s very important to understand if we continue working like that positive results will come.”

Bournemouth’s recent form has been inconsistent but Mazzarri thinks Eddie Howe’s side play some of the best football in the competition.

He said: “I said it also the first time we met them they are in my opinion one of the teams that play the better football in the league.

“They’ve got a lot of experience and are a team that are growing and working very well. We will also play at their stadium this time so I’m very curious to see how we will perform against one of the teams that play some of the best football in the Premier League.”

The Cherries have been poor defensively recently, conceding 27 goals in their last ten matches, but Mazzarri believes this is only down to their attacking gameplan.

The Watford boss said: “They are a team that plays very good football but also thinks a lot about attacking. It’s normal in this way they concede one or two more goals.

“But I saw their game against Liverpool and they never gave up because they were down and managed to come back and win the game. They are a team that attacks a lot but I’m very curious to see if, with our organisation, we’re able to stop them.”
