Venezuela fans would be forgiven for forgetting who young striker Adalberto Penaranda was when he came on for the final 22 minutes of their 3-1 defeat to Chile in Santiago last night.

The 19-year-old, currently on loan with Malaga from Watford, has not played domestically for more than a month, but replaced Darwin Machis in the second-half of their World Cup qualifying defeat last night.

Venezuela have six points from their South American group, and are already out of contention for World Cup 2018.

Sebastian Prodl enjoyed a more enjoyable evening as his assist helped Austria claim a 1-1 draw with Finland in a midweek friendly.

His header from a corner was turned in by Stoke midfielder Marko Arnautovic for the opener with 62 minutes played, but Fredrik Jensen equalised later for Finland.

There was also a late run-out for Steven Berghuis as Holland lost 2-1 to Italy, replacing Quincy Promes for the final 90 seconds of their defeat in the nation's first international since sacking Danny Blind.
