Watford may be on their worst Premier League run under Walter Mazzarri, but combative midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure remains confident ahead of Friday’s trip to Goodison Park.

The Hornets have been dire on the road and are without a goal away from Vicarage Road since the 2-1 win against Arsenal in January, a run stretching back 527 minutes.

A 3-0 defeat at Leicester City condemned them to three loses on the spin and Doucoure is eager to right some wrongs against Everton.

He said: “Everton are a very strong team. Now’s the best moment to show what we can do, and our mentality.

“We have to go there be positive and confident and look to get a result.”

Watford’s chief concern on Merseyside could well be shackling Premier League top scorer Romelu Lukaka.

The Belgian has 24 league goals to his name - 20 more than Everton’s next most prolific scorers Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman - and his importance to Ronald Koeman’s side is undoubted.

Doucoure, however, believes it would be foolish to focus solely on Lukaku against a side which, until recently, had genuine designs on securing a European spot.

He explained: “Romelu Lukaku is one of the best strikers in the Premier League but they have a lot of other good players. We have to go there and be focused on ourselves.”
