Watford have reportedly been offered 34-year-old midfielder Raul Meireles, perhaps best known for his stints with Liverpool and Chelsea earlier in his career.

The Portuguese international, who has been without a club for more than a year, has been touted around a number of Premier League sides by his agent.

But the likelihood of the Hornets making a move for the player, even with his native connections to head coach Marco Silva, seems slim at best given his age and lack of recent football.

Meireles made 73 appearances for Portugal between 2006 and 2014, when he retired from international duty.

He played for Liverpool during 2010/11 before joining Chelsea the following summer and staying for another year.
