Watford Ladies have completed the signing of goalkeeper Shanell Salgado as the Golden Girls’ squad continues to take shape ahead of the new campaign.

She arrives at the club with 60 appearances for AFC Wimbledon under her belt, who she has represented for the past three seasons.

During that time, Salgado helped the Dons gain promotion to the WPL South East London division before securing second and third place finishes in the following two campaigns.

Having put pen to paper on her deal with the Hornets, Salgado is eager to make an impression at the Gaywood Park based club.

She told the club: “For me as a player, I want to grow. I want to play at the highest level possible, and I think Watford is the big step for me to achieve that.

“I want to grow as a goalkeeper and to learn much more. I want to give everything I have to the club and get promotion back up to the Championship.

“From what I’ve heard, and what I’ve seen and experienced, so far with Watford I’m very pleased to be part of it next season.”

Salgado’ focus now turns to the upcoming campaign which will see Watford compete in the National League South.

For Salgado, helping Watford climb into the top tier as soon as possible is the ambition.

“I want to be able to go up to the Championship with Watford because they’ve been there, done that and that’s where they belong,” she said.

“The aim for the team is creating a positive environment, some fun and just for everyone to have that winning mentality, I want that to be the attitude that everyone has.

“I think here at Watford all the girls are super excited about the season getting underway, and I’m glad to be part of it.”
