Abdoulaye Doucoure says he is happy to have committed his future to Watford, but admits a move away in the future remains a possibility.

The French midfielder was linked with a summer switch to Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Vicarage Road.

While it seems unlikely Doucoure will see out the duration of that deal should his form remain consistently impressive, the 25-year-old’s immediate focus is on Watford.

“I was linked to maybe leave the club but I was always committed to Watford and I think the ambition with the club is like mine, “Doucoure said.

“I am very happy to stay here and have a great season with Watford. Of course we will see what happens in the summer but for now I am really happy with my new deal and I made a good choice.”

Having won the club’s Player of the Season award last term, Doucoure will once again be a central figure for the Hornets.

Doucoure is aiming to match the showings he put in during 2017/18 as he looks to help the Hornets make an impression further up the Premier League table.

He said: “I am happy to stay in Watford. We are a very good team and we have a good thing here.

“I want to be one of the best players in Watford and want to take the team as high up as possible.”
