Saracens boss Mark McCall was frustrated at the scrappy nature of his side’s 15-15 draw with Ospreys in the Champions Cup on Saturday.

A late Dan Biggar penalty rescued a draw for the home side in a match which saw the Wales fly-half and England's Owen Farrell land five penalties apiece.

The result leaves Saracens needing results to go their way next weekend, as they head into the clash with Northampton Saints with a slim chance of continuing the defence of their European crown.

And director of rugby McCall could not hide his disappointment at surrendering a winning position so late on.

“It’s just disappointing to lose the win like that,” said McCall.

“It was a scrappy, tight, stop-start sort of game with the weather being the way it was with the rain but ultimately it came down to the penalty count at scrum-time, that was the fundamental problem.

“I think that in a scrappy, tight, stop-start game like that the penalty count at set-piece time, and in particular at the scrum, ultimately determines the outcome of the game and the way it’s played, so it’s pretty frustrating.

“Next week we have to try and play better than we did tonight, it’s important that we give ourselves a shout by winning next weekend and then whatever happens in other groups happens.”
