A maintenance worker is due to appear in court today in relation to the death of a two-year-old girl who plunged from a balcony.

Rayaheen Banimuslem was playing with her brother when she fell 60ft from the fourth floor of a block of flats in Sheffield city centre in June 2012.

Robert Warner is expected to appear at Sheffield Crown Court where he has denied a single charge of manslaughter by gross negligence.

The charge alleges that he failed to replace a glass panel he had removed from a barrier surrounding the balcony or take steps to ensure the safety of Rayaheen after the panel was removed.

Warner, 44, of Shirehall Crescent, Shiregreen, Sheffield, is on unconditional bail.
