After years of bad boy Nick Cotton causing his mum grief in EastEnders, Dot is left to grieve for him one last time at his funeral.

Viewers will see Dot, played by June Brown, bid an emotional farewell to her son as she prepares to bury him.

John Altman played the soap villain for 24 years between 1985 and 2009 and over the years Nick has caused Dot a string of problems, including her battle to help him end his heroin addiction and his endless brushes with the law.

Nick has committed several murders in the soap and once even tried to poison Dot in a bid to inherit her money.

But Dot has been left shell-shocked by the news that her troublesome son has died.

Nick's death will lead to the introduction of his eldest son Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett), who shows up unexpectedly on Dot's doorstep.

Nasty Nick - who featured in his own spin-off episode, The Return Of Nick Cotton, in 2000 - was last seen in the show in 2009, when he left Walford after an explosion at the cafe, where he had held some of the Walford residents hostage.

His death was not seen by viewers and Altman did not return to film any scenes.
