A couple left emotionally scarred after a surrogate mother lied about carrying their child have condemned her for destroying their dreams.
Tony and Debra Kaba branded Louise Pollard a "she-devil" after she pretended that she had fallen pregnant following artificial insemination, only to claim she had miscarried after swindling them out of thousands of pounds.
Pollard, 28, of Plymouth, Devon, was jailed yesterday for three years and four months for carrying out the £15,000 scam on two desperate couples.
In September 2012 the Kabas paid Pollard £1,000 to help them have a second child, and in late October she pretended to inseminate herself at their home.
A few weeks later she told them she was pregnant, but after a doctor's letter confirming her pregnancy was exposed as a forgery the couple contacted police and she told them she had miscarried their child.
Mrs Kaba told The Sun she and her husband were furious for not seeing "the evil within her". "But we just wanted to believe her," she said. "We thought she was carrying our child and she knew how desperate we were. She destroyed that dream in the cruellest possible way."
The Kabas paid Pollard, a former personal assistant, around £5,000 to be their surrogate, but she later broke off all contact with them.
Mrs Kaba, 46, from Oldham, told the newspaper that Pollard sent them messages complaining they were not willing to pay her enough money and that she later phoned at all hours of the day demanding money.
Despite her fears the couple continued with their plans, until Pollard fell silent after they had given her a large amount of money.
Mrs Kaba condemned Pollard's wicked plot and said: "We're sickened that somebody could be so evil. How could she put another woman through that?
"She was playing us in the most cold and calculated way. We're emotionally scarred for life. She's a she-devil."
Pollard also lied to Josephine and Keith Barnett, who had been trying for a child for 12 years, taking more than £10,000 from them before telling them she had been involved in a serious car accident and had lost the baby.
In 2010 Pollard alleged she was pregnant with the grandchild of Osama bin Laden, following an arrangement with his son Omar bin Laden - and again claimed she miscarried - which police also believe may have been a scam.
Jailing Pollard at Bristol Crown Court, Judge Graham Cottle said her "deliberate, sustained, callous acts" had left both families devastated.
