Uxbridge College Excels Again with Beacon Status

Hi there I would like to share some news with you which has given everyone associated with the college reason to be very proud. A group of colleagues and I had the pleasure earlier this year of collecting Uxbridge College’s Beacon Status certificate from Siôn Simon, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Further Education. The accolade is only given to colleges, sixth-forms and private training firms which have proved they are run to the highest standard, and offer excellent education and work-related training to their communities. Siôn Simon called it “an outstanding achievement” – and I truly believe it is.
Uxbridge College’s Beacon status is a real tribute to the amazing progress the college has made in recent years thanks to all the hard work of staff, students and partners. Personally I think it is a real honour to be recognised in this way and to be held up as an example to others. We will now work with with other colleges and training organisations to share our expertise. The Beacon status builds on our existing achievements which have seen us become an outstanding college under Ofsted, as well as ranking first for success rates among all FE colleges across the whole of London for young people for the last two years.
But however well things go for us, there is never any question that we are ever going to sit back and have a rest! Of course it is a great pleasure to reflect on our successes. But there is always work to do, particularly when the world around us is changing so rapidly. One of a further education college’s jobs is helping make sure people have the chance to learn the skills needed by the local, regional and national economy at any given time. So we are busy looking at how we can support local people and businesses through this difficult time, by providing training for the skills which are now most in demand.
