TO celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the most famous recordings in British jazz history, Stan Tracey’s Under Milk Wood, there will be a special performance this Sunday.

Stan, who lived in St Albans until he died in 2013, was still performing in his 80s. The show will be a family celebration of that long career as Stan's son Clark will perform as well as his grandson Ben, who will narrate.

Under Milk Wood, inspired by Dylan Thomas' poem of the same title, is widely recognised as a masterpiece.

The haunting, evocative sound of saxophonist Bobby Wellins played an essential role in the original 1965 recording and he will be joined on stage by Andrew Cleyndert and Clark, both members of Stan’s groups for the last 35 years, and Stan’s personal choice of pianist Steve Melling.

Under Milk Wood, Herts Jazz Club, Hawthorne Theatre, Welwyn Garden City, Sunday, October 25, 7.30 pm. Details: 0300 3039 620, hertsjazz.co.uk
