THE finishing touches were put to a new school in Uxbridge this week.

John Locke Academy will provide 630 primary school places, in addition to a 90-place nursery and sporting features, which will also be accessible to the wider community.

Located on the former RAF base in Uxbridge, it is surrounded by playing fields and boasts an all-weather games area.

The design and its sporting features reflect the history of the site, which was a training ground for Olympians and Commonwealth athletes after World War One.

It has 21 classrooms, each benefiting from wi-fi, serving inter-active white boards and classroom PCs.

John Locke Academy is one of three new schools being built as part of Hillingdon Council's £150m schools expansion programme.

Lake Farm Park Academy in Hayes will also open its doors in September and a third school in West Drayton should be ready to welcome pupils in September next year.
