POLICE say protesters at the Climate Camp site in Sipson are squatting without permission of the landowner.
The Climate Camp group set up camp in a field near Sipson Lane earlier than anticipated - on Saturday night.
A statement from the Met Police said: "As part of our policing operation for the Climate Camp we did anticipate that the protesters would try and establish the Camp early.
"A police presence was on site when protesters first arrived. On the site they have occupied they are currently squatting without the permission of the landowner. We have made contact with the landowner and explained the civil legal position.
"Since Saturday night we have attempted to establish a working dialogue with representatives of the Camp.
"We are carrying out routine patrols throughout the Camp, to ensure that offences are not committed."
