Creative students were victorious after demonstrating their business flair in a county-wide competition.

Teams from Watford Grammar School for boys and girls fought off competition from other schools in the Young Enterprise Company of the Year County Finals, which took place at he at the University of Hertfordshire on May 2.

The aim of the competition was to raise the confidence of students and give them an understanding of future careers in business they could pursue in the future.

Moira Tonge, who is a board member at Young Enterprise, praised the teams involved.

She said: “The evening was full of high energy and enthusiasm by all seven teams from across Hertfordshire. The passion and confidence levels of these young entrepreneurs was truly spell binding.

“I was fortunate to speak with all seven Company teams that evening. Every Company Team I spoke with demonstrated such professionalism and passion about their business.

“It was magnetic and even as a Young Enterprise Board Member myself and business owner, I would have also liked to be a team member. Every successful Company were driven by what had become their new family.”

The Year 12 team from Watford Grammar School for Girls called themselves Certi and were successful after writing and illustrating a children’s book called A Princess Like Me.

The story followed a young princess from another planet who came to Earth to skills like kindness and equality.

The MisQuoted team was comprised of Year 12 students from Watford Grammar School who designed a range of unique street wear featuring made up quotes from famous individuals.

The two teams will now represent Hertfordshire in the South Central Regional Final at Buckingham University on June 21.
