A HUGE thanks has gone out to RAF Northolt staff for supporting DKMS, a blood cancer charity and registering as blood stem cell donors to become potential lifesavers.

The donor recruitment event took place at the station last week and drew 47 new registrations, alongside on-going fund-raising activities.

It was organised by Adam Bruerton, Senior Aircraftsman in the Aeronautical Information Documents Unit, who was keen to encourage his colleagues to register.

Adam said: “It was touching to see so many people taking the time to attend and helping to raise awareness and vital funds to support a great cause.”

Every 20 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer, such as leukaemia, myeloma or lymphoma. A blood stem cell donation from a genetically similar person can offer the best treatment – a second chance at life.

Four out of 10 patients will not find an unrelated matching donor. This isn’t because a match doesn’t exist, it’s simply because there aren’t enough people registered.

People aged 17-55 and in general good health can register by requesting a home swab kit online at www.dkms.org.uk
