NEW technology that is potentially life-changing for many people with diabetes is now available across Ealing
Health leaders have approved the use of Flash Glucose Monitoring, which means some people will be able to get it free of charge on prescription for the first time.
Flash Glucose Monitoring uses a small sensor that people wear on their skin. It continuously records and stores the last eight hours of glucose readings and can be read by scanning the sensor whenever needed.
This can free people from the pain of frequent finger-prick testing, making it easier to keep on top of blood sugar levels.

Crucially, the device can help with better control of the condition and, in turn, reduce the risk of serious complications such as amputation, blindness and stroke.
Even though it is available on the NHS, use is subject to approval by health bodies, and there are still many areas of the country where it is not offered on prescription.
Diabetes UK wants to see people all over the UK benefit from the ground-breaking technology.
