AROUND 200 pupils at Hermitage Primary School in Uxbridge swapped their pens and pencils for hard hats and hi-vis jackets as part of a construction-themed assembly given by St. Modwen Homes.

Martin Gaffney, site manager at the nearby St. Andrew’s Park development, was joined by mascot Honor Goodsite.

Children got the chance to dress  up in the same protective clothing that staff wear on site and were  taught about the dangers and hazards of construction sites as well as the range of jobs the industry offers.

Martin and Honor also challenged them to design a poster, with the most creative entries to be shown on the hoarding at St. Andrew’s Park.

Deputy head Parmjit Varaitch said: “Along with the serious message about the risks of playing near construction sites, the children really enjoyed finding out about the huge amount of work that goes into building homes.”
