HILLINGDON will mark the centenary of the end of World War One with special events of remembrance throughout the borough.
On Sunday, November 11, at the very moment the armistice ended was signed 100 years ago, rocket maroons will be fired at 11 sites across the borough.
One of the rocket maroons will be set off at the Battle of Britain Exhibition and Visitor Centre, Uxbridge. This will be followed by a special programme of events throughout Remembrance Sunday.
The Blue Cross will explain how animals served in conflict, while there will be poppy-making workshops, a poppy art display and a remembrance-themed discovery trail among the activities.
A free exhibition, detailing how life on the Hillingdon home front was affected by the war, opens at Uxbridge Library today (Monday). It runs until Thursday, November 22.

Three pairs of memorial silhouettes of soldiers have already been installed at Harefield, Ruislip and Harmondsworth.
The artwork depicts British infantry, nicknamed Tommies, and is part of a national campaign to remind all communities on why and how 888,246 British and Commonwealth service personnel lost their lives in the conflict.
In Harefield, the 'Tommies' stand on the village green next to the war memorial and commemorative paving stones honouring Great War recipients of the Victoria Cross, Harefield-born Robert Edward Ryder and Cecil John Kinross.
Copies of a book detailing all Hillingdon residents who lost their lives during the Great War is available to buy for £3 at any of the borough’s 17 libraries.
We Will Remember Them, has already been donated to the borough's schools, libraries and soldier’s families.
