The Elected Mayor of Watford was grilled by schoolchildren today on everything from green transport to the high street development.

Peter Taylor welcomed pupils from Bromet School to the Town Hall to discuss Watford’s peace memorials and to answer their questions.

Around 80 children attended two events and quizzed Mr Taylor on various matters affecting the town including the new intu extension and what the mayor enjoys about his role.

Mr Taylor said: “It was great to host Bromet School pupils at the Town Hall and to answer their questions. They were a really engaged group of children and certainly kept me on my toes.

“There were definitely some budding politicians amongst them. They had lots of thoughts about how to improve the town they live in and were a real credit to their school.”

A pupil from the school’s Falcon class said: “I thought it was a really exciting and amazing opportunity to put the mayor on the spot.

“It was also great that our ideas are being taken into consideration and that we are being listened to.

“I enjoyed discovering what is going on in Watford and surrounding areas.”
