A plaque commemorating all 1,429 known serviceman from Watford who lost their lives in the First World War will be erected on Sunday.

Following three years of research, Daren Norris has compiled an extensive list of all those who gave their lives to protect their country.

The event will take place at the Hammer in Hand pub in Ganders Ash, Leavesden. Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor and Woodside ward councillors will be in attendance.

The commemorative event will begin at 1pm.

A permanent plaque will be put up alongside three large panels with all 1,429 names.

The plaque will partly read: β€œIn memory of the 1,429 known Soldiers, Seamen and Airmen of this borough who gave their lives in the service of their King and Country during the Great War of 1914 – 1918.”

Everyone is invited to attend the event and people are encouraged to bring along with them photos, for example ancestors in World War One uniform to be put up on a community board for the day.
