A woman is furious with the treatment she received from a garage after the car she bought from them cut out on the motorway.

Several weeks after Yvonne Goder-Persand bought a second-hand Vauxhall Tigra from Broadtower Automotives on August 31 she drove to Stanstead Airport from her Harlow home to pick up a relative.

As she was making the return trip she pushed down on the brake.

The engine suddenly cut out, leaving her hurtling along and out of control at 70mph.

She said: "The car was making loud noises from the onset but I was assured it was a new tyre fitted and it would go.

"I should of known better.

"I was on the motorway going around 60 or 70mph and pressed the brake in, which caused the whole engine to cut out.

"It put my life at risk and made me scared to even drive the vehicle.

"It was very stressful."

Luckily the market researcher managed to turn the engine back on before an accident happened.

The incident convinced her to return the 2009 motor to the Thornwood car showroom midway through September.

Having expected to receive a full £1,600 refund, she was sorely disappointed.

She added: "I called and complained, but they would not change the vehicle or refund my money. They only promised to fix this.

"After nine days of chasing an update whilst my car was in repairs, I finally had this unroadworthy car back.

"The car was not cutting out on the motorway, however loud noises were still being made and the brakes and wheels were all faulty."

Mrs Goder-Persand said the car also smelt of petrol and was quick to overheat.

When asked about the car's engine cutting out owner Thomas Delgado said the garage was only made aware of this problem at the end of October.

However, Mrs Goder-Persand claims a staff member drove her home in the car on September 19, only for the engine to cut out on him.

Mr Delgado said: "The MOT shows that the vehicle is fit for use on the road.

"The MOT provider we use is not connected to our company."

When asked about negative reviews chronicling similar issues on websites Car Dealer Reviews and Trust Pilot, Mr Delgado said the reviewers were not verified purchasers unlike on Autotrader, where the garage is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Now Mrs Goder-Persand has been offered an exchange for another car or a £600 refund, which amounts to the purchase price minus 2,000 miles at 40p.

She added: "It is just ridiculous.

"They are exaggerating the miles they say I have done."
