A driver was left with severe swelling and bruising to his face after he was punched while he sat in his car.

Police are investigating the unprovoked attack on the motorist, aged in his 50s, which happened on the afternoon of Friday December 21.

It is believed the driver had been turning right into Prestwick Road, from Fairfield Avenue, in South Oxhey, at around 3pm, when a man walked out into the road causing him to brake suddenly to avoid hitting him.

The man then hit the side of the car as it drove off.

The driver, who was in a blue Ford car, then stopped at the nearby Tesco Express Esso petrol station, and as he opened his door, the man who had stepped out in front of him ran up to him and began punching him repeatedly.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to as part of their enquiries. PC Matt Perrin, who is investigating the assault, believes the man pictured was in the area at the time and may have information that could help them.

Anyone who recognises the man in the picture or has any information about the assault can contact PC Perrin at matt.perrin@herts.pnn.police.uk, or calling 101, quoting crime reference 41/68178/18.
