One of the national top steampunk photographers is holding a talk to sparking inspiration.

The ‘realist is for people without imagination’ talk will be held in Watford this evening by fine art photographer Gary Nicholls.

The steampunk genre creates a futuristic world using 19th century technology and costumes.

Mr Nicholls is returning to Watford after five years to focus on creating inspiration in his audience to try new ideas and photographic techniques.

His talk is not only to inspire but will also talk through the Photoshop and lighting techniques used and will finish with tips on skin retouching and detail.

Mr Nicholls said: “From being an ex-teacher you want to pass things on, the biggest thing is you want inspire. That means more to me than selling a picture.”

His love for photography derived from a young age as he was introduced to a camera by his father became a teacher in South West London and only picked his passion back up in 2007.

Gary is also the author and creator of The Imaginarium Trilogy, a fine art story that consists of 500 images telling a dark steampunk story.

The inspiration behind his work comes from his love for the genre as he was attracted to its creative culture.

He said: “I knew I wanted to create a story in steampunk images, and no one has ever done that before. It draws you in and its unbelievably creative, everyone makes their own clothes and gadgets.”
