A BUILDER jailed for evading duty on smuggled alcohol has been ordered to repay £53,937 or face a further eight months behind bars.
Dilbagh Dhillon, 40, of Hayes End Drive, Hayes, was sentenced to two years and four months in August after HM Revenue and Customs found illegal alcohol – worth £62,347 in lost duty - at an industrial unit in Hounslow.
On Friday, Dhillon was ordered to repay the majority of the duty he evaded within three months and now faces selling a half-share of his home.
Simon Kiefer, of HMRC Fraud Investigation, said: “Our actions don’t stop once someone is convicted. We will look to reclaim the stolen money, cash that should be funding vital public services in the UK.”
