NURSE Alison Pottle, of Harefield Hospital, is running the Vitality Big Half on Sunday to raise money for HEART UK – the Cholesterol Charity.

The half-marathon, which starts by the iconic Tower of London and finishes at Cutty Sark, was created to celebrate London’s diversity and inspire more people to get active.

Alison manages the unit for forms of raised cholesterol, like the inherited FH (familial hypercholesterolaemia), at Harefield.

She said: “Many of my patients had FH but didn’t know it until problems occurred.

“I am passionate about raising awareness of FH and believe that, if more people with the condition were diagnosed, the risk of them developing heart problems would be reduced.”

FH and high cholesterol are known as silent killers as too much cholesterol in the blood increases the risk of developing heart and other circulatory diseases.
