Richard Harrington has pressed for a new doctor’s surgery in an area which is set to see mass development over the coming years.
The Watford MP says he strongly supports the case for a new GP surgery in St Albans Road and has made steps this week to make it happen.
Mr Harrington has written to the Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group and a developer to ensure infrastructure is in place with thousands of new homes on the horizon.
A development of 146 flats has already been given the go ahead, near Bedford Street, and the MP wants to work with the developer GS8 to try and get a commitment that a surgery is built too.
146 flats which have been given approval
Around 3,000 homes altogether are projected as part of the Watford Junction masterplan.
Consultations are ongoing for a development of up to 1,200 homes by Berkeley Homes on The Range and TK Maxx site in St Albans Road.
Homes are also being planned right by the government-backed project at Watford Junction. Alongside homes, a second exit will be created at the station via a passenger bridge alongside a ticket office.
What a potential development on The Range site could look like
Mr Harrington said: “I strongly support the provision of a new GP surgery in the St Albans Quarter in North Watford. I have discussed this in a meeting with the developers and they are very keen to explore the option of accommodating a GP surgery to help meet the inevitable increase on demand.”
