A hospital radio station that has been on the air for the past 50 years has received an award.

Radio Mount Vernon, which first broadcast in 1969, celebrated its anniversary last month with a visit from the President of the Hospital Broadcasting Association, June Snowdon.

She presented an award to the station and to volunteers in Northwood for their years of entertaining patients and staff.

She said: “This is a great opportunity to congratulate everyone involved with Radio Mount Vernon on their dedication and hard work. Many thanks for all you do for your hospital community.”

Special certificates celebrating 25 years of presenting live shows were given Christine Haines and Martin Hill.

Certificates were also awarded to John Thompson for 20 years of involvement and leadership and to Steve Parker for 15 years as an engineer for the radio station.
