A TOTAL of 148 young people from across Hillingdon received Jack Petchey Foubndation Awards at the Beck Theatre this week.

The winners, aged 11-25, now have medallions to go with their framed certificate and a cheque for £250 each, already presented. They were nominated by their peers and leaders.

In addition, 14 adults were also celebrated for their ability to motivate young people.

Hillingdon has received £806,903 from the Foundation since funding started in 2005.

Winners included Alfie McNally, 13, who attends The Douay Martyrs School. Since starting school, Alfie has continued to make a significant contribution to the PE Department.

He is the football team’s goalkeeper and has led the team to success at the borough championships in both Year 7 and 8.

He has also represented the borough at athletics and cricket.

Alfie plays for Fulham FC and was recently selected to train with England at St George’s Park.

Katie Ginger, 13, attends Vyners School. She has volunteered across school projects such as Student Voice and athletics.

Outside school, she volunteers at Messy Church and Kickz, a football camp for children. She has also volunteered at events like the London Marathon and Ride London.

Edward Holden, 15, also attends Vyners School. He and his parents witnesses a serious accident and, while his parents were helping the injured man, Edward took the initiative to call an ambulance.

He remained calm, despite it being a stressful situation. He helped to get a defibrillator and gave information to the ambulance workers once they had arrived.
