Users of a health centre that recently changed from a walk-in facility to appointment only have been asked to give their views.

Harrow Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has opened a survey into the changes at Alexandra Avenue Health Centre in South Harrow.

Since November 1 patients have had to make appointments to see their GP, either by calling the surgery or contacting the NHS via 111.

Furthermore, it is only available to those registered with a GP in Harrow, irrespective of where people live.

The move was criticised by members of the community, while Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas said it was representative of the increasing pressures faced by the health service.

Several Harrow councillors also questioned the move and hit out at what they saw as a lack of consultation on the matter.

The CCG explained that the decision was taken to ensure that people have “greater access to primary care”.

When the decision was announced, Javina Seghal, managing director of Harrow CCG, said: “We want the local NHS to be as adaptive as possible to patient needs, and pre-bookable appointments at the Alexandra Avenue Health Centre will ensure that people can access a GP at the right time that suits them.”

She added that appointments are available seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, while patients can book a slot several days in advance if required.
