A mental health charity is teaming up with its local council to host a series of workshops promoting positive body image.
Mind in Harrow is leading the project, which is based on the theme of this year’s mental health week.
The charity’s chief executive, Mark Gillham, explained that stress can lead to negative perceptions when it comes to one’s own appearance.
He said it is an important topic in terms of mental health and that the workshops will give practical tips on how to de-stress and improve emotional wellbeing.
“Body image is a topic that is often discussed in the news and is a complex concern for many people,” he said.
“Research shows that 30 per cent of all adults have felt very stressed by it to the point where they feel they are unable to cope.”
The first workshop is being held at Harrow Civic Centre on May 15 at 2pm. It is free to attend but there are limited spaces. Visit bit.ly/2HawJPY to sign up.
Harrow Council explained that further workshops will be announced in the coming weeks.
Cllr Simon Brown, responsible for adults and public health at Harrow Council, urged people to get involved since these issues can “have a huge impact” on people’s lives.
