A councillor praised the efforts of the community he serves, after people came together to clean up the streets.
The event in Wealdstone saw a community-led effort to tidy up the town over the weekend.
Covering the area from Harrow and Wealdstone station to Iceland on the high street, they picked up litter, swept floors, repainted shop fronts and weeded flower beds.
Cllr Phillip O’Dell, who represents Wealdstone ward, said it highlights the possibilities of cohesive campaigns.
He said: “This is a fantastic example of what can be done when the community comes together.
“Along with the positive turnout, a lot of progress was made in brightening up shopping areas and trying to bring the community and businesses in the areas to take pride in where they live, work and shop.”
The event was organised by the ‘Our Wealdstone’ resident group, in collaboration with the police, Harrow Council and various voluntary organisations.
Jane Hylton, a member of the group, said it was “exciting” to see “real community spirit” in the region and noted that it is planning future events.
The project is the latest to benefit Wealdstone, as the council and other organisations seek to improve an area that has struggled with crime and anti-social behaviour.
Harrow and Wealdstone station is set to benefit from a new footbridge and there are plans to build a new civic centre in the heart of the ward.
