A PRIMARY school will be relocated in a heavily-polluted area to make way for Heathrow’s third runway, with potential learning impact for children, say campaigners.

Stop Heathrow Expansion says Harmondsworth Primary School would be knocked down and moved from the edge of Harmondsworth village to the Stockley By-pass, outside its catchment area.

It says the site would be close to air pollution monitors that frequently break legal limits.

Campaigners say other primary schools such as Cherry Lane, Heathrow and William Byrd would all remain just metres from a new runway.

Rob Barnstone, Coordinator of Stop Heathrow Expansion, said: “How can it be allowed for a primary school to be relocated in an area with already high exposure to toxic emissions, to make way for 260,000 more flights, emitting more emissions in its former location?”

Parmjit Dhanda, Executive Director of Back Heathrow, which supports airport expansion, said: "Hillingdon Council has a statutory duty to ensure the borough's children receive a decent school education.

"By stubbornly sticking their heads in the sand over even the hint of a possibility that Heathrow will expand, council leaders are letting down local residents.

“It’s time for them to grow up, start face-to-face discussions and get support from Heathrow for new provision in locations the borough wants, in the event of a new runway."
