A pub quiz raised £800 for Barbara Buses - a charity which gives wheelchair users the freedom to get out and about.

The Three Crowns in Bushey Heath was packed earlier this month for its weekly quiz night and landlord Michael Duffy allowed the night of fundraising to be dedicated Barbara Bus Fund.

The buses are used to transport people in wheelchairs around for all sorts of purposes - it can be days out or everyday trips like appointments or going to the shops.

Clients can borrow the vehicles and supply their own driver or they can call on the services of a small team of volunteer drivers.

A raffle on the night, with some contributions from chocolatiers Browns and Crown Honda, raised £325, while further donations brought the grand total up to £800.

Peter McNulty, a volunteer with Barbara Bus Fund, said: "I can’t begin to tell you what a real difference this money will make. Anything involving vehicles is an expensive undertaking and this money will be well spent. Thank you to Michael Duffy and his regular quizzers at the Three Crowns. In our eyes, you are stars."

Barbara Bus Fund, which is 50 years old, operates most of its vehicles from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. It is a unique service for people with disabilities, who are unable to travel in standard vehicles.
