A LITTLE girl from West Drayton was surprised by the out-of-season Santa at a party to celebrate the courage of young people receiving treatment for cancer.

Six-year-old Kyna Bedi was a guest at the Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens Star Awards party, supported by TK Maxx.

The winter wonderland party was held at Santa’s ‘summer home’ in central London.

It gave children and their families - some of whom had missed out on festive celebrations, due to cancer treatment - a memorable experience.

All the guests received a special award to recognise their strength.

Kyna was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancer that starts in the nerve cells, in 2013 when she was just five months old.

Treatment has left her with long-term side-effects. The nerves in her face have been affected, leaving her with a droopy eye.

Otherwise, though, she is now well. She has discovered her creative side and has had a starring role in her school production.

Her mum, Samneet, said: “We have come out of the experience stronger and I find it easier to deal with all the small problems that life throws at us.”

The Cancer Research Star Awards celebrate the courage of all children and young people in the UK who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Every nominee receives a trophy, a T-shirt, a certificate signed by celebrities and a £50 TK Maxx voucher.
