STAFF at a convenience store in Latchford have turned a disused patch of land into a community garden.
More than a dozen workers at the Co-op on Kingsway South volunteers to transform an area to the side and rear of the shop – tackling overgrown weeds and creating new flower beds in their place.
Residents will also be able to pick fresh herbs for free from the new green space, which has been created in partnership with the Eden Gardens community project.
Plans are also afoot to introduce a bench and bee hives to the new garden.
Store manager Peter Orme said: “Transforming this unused piece of land was hard work, but very rewarding – it really has made a big difference.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who rolled-up their sleeves and got stuck in.
“We hope it will provide a relaxing and enjoyable space for our customers in the community to sit and enjoy the flowers, and once the garden is established we hope the fresh and healthy herbs will be popular too.”
