A CONSULTATION is underway on planss for a new 500m-long linear park at Berkeley’s Southall Waterside development.

People are being asked about the features they would like to see in the four-acre natural space – roughly equivalent to four football pitches – which is being designed in partnership with London Wildlife Trust.

Current plans include a mix of green open space, children’s play areas, nature trails and valuable wildlife habitats, including reed and wetlands planting, to attract insects and small birds.

The proposed park would include an amphitheatre, to host events such as open-air cinema, music and dance performances, as well as fitness and activity trails and a water feature that would run the length of the park, with bubblers and jets where children can splash.

These varied and engaging parkland proposals aim to draw in people of all ages to rest, play, meet up and enjoy all the benefits of a healthy natural setting.

Southall Waterside is one of the capital’s largest regeneration projects, on former gasworks land.

The new neighbourhood would include 3,750 homes, a commercial district, community hub and a network of cycling and walking routes, including two new footbridges to the adjacent 90-acre Minet Country Park.
