A schoolboy had a day to remember after challenging his football hero to a duel during a Watford FC funday.

Eden Edlin, 7, received an invitation to the Junior Hornets funday on Tuesday, July 30 at the team’s training ground in St Albans.

It was there he met his “ultimate” hero Troy Deeney. But Eden wasted no time in challenging the Watford FC captain to a three round gladiator duel.

Despite the first two rounds being tied one a piece, Deeney just beat Eden in the third round to take a close victory.

Karen Edlin, Eden’s mum, said it was a day for her son to cherish, having also got to meet several other players on the team.

The 39-year-old from Pinner said: “It was just such an amazing day.

“When we came to this event this was not what we expected.

“It was incredible and it was great to see that Troy had time for everyone at the event.”

The new Premier League season kicks off next Friday (August 9), with the Hornet’s first game of the season against Brighton.

It was recently revealed that none of Watford’s October Premier League matches will be played on live television.

This means that only one Watford game will be shown on TV during the first three months of the 2019/20 season; the home tie against Arsenal on Sunday, September 15.
