A MULTI-million appeal to buy two new scanners for Paul Strickland Scanner received a boost this week when Nick Hurd, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, announced his backing.

The centre, at Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood, is raising funds for a new MRI scanner, as well as a new PET-CT scanner, costing several millions including building works.

It would mean more patients can be scanned in a day. In addition, the scanners will be equipped with new technology that could mean an earlier and more accurate diagnosis for cancer patients.

First established in 1985, the centre is an independent medical charity with a track record of being at the forefront of medical imaging.

It is a world-leader in whole-body MRI for cancer, an imaging technique that can be particularly important for patients where cancer has spread.

During a visit on Wednesday, Mr Hurd said: “This hugely important fund-raising campaign will take the centre on to even bigger and better things, and that is why I am fully behind it.”
