Last weekend, 27/28 July, I attended the Watford Short Film Festival, held at two venues, Watford Museum and the Pump House Arts Centre. It was a wonderful couple of days, with short films entered from around the world. There were dramas, comedies, cartoons and all were very professionally made; in many instances the writers and directors turned up to talk about their films, and answer questions from the audience.

This is the second year the festival has been held and James Dyer, the festival director, has proved more than equal to the task of setting it all up and organising the event. With support from people keen to make this an annual event for our town. The films were judged and the winners presented with awards. And it was all free to attend! For film lovers it was a treat and for people just interested in a somewhat different cultural event it was two days of fun and went very fast. I trust it will be back next year and can only encourage people who didn’t make it this year to come.
