A TEENAGER from Bolton is one of 45,000 Scouts from across the world taking part in a skills and adventure festival.

The World Scout Jamboree sees 5,000 Scouts from the UK and 40,000 from the rest of the world meet in West Virginia, USA.

James Booth, 17, is one of the Scouts attending the festival, which happens every four years.

Since being in the States, he has tried mountain biking, zip lining and climbing.

James said: “The Jamboree has been amazing, I have had an opportunity like no other, one I will remember for the rest of my life – it has been incredible.

“My favourite activity was the mountain biking, it was thrilling, and something I have never ever done before — I was scared at first, but I soon conquered my fears and I loved it.

“The Jamboree has taught me to focus on the positives and really value the people and friends around me — I have really learnt to respect others more.”

The event was opened by UK Chief Scout, Bear Grylls.

He added: “World Scout Jamborees only happen every four years and tens of thousands of Scouts attend each one.

“They are incredible festivals of peace, friendship and adventure.

“Young people will make friends for life with people from over 150 countries, experience different food, language and culture while learning new skills. It will be the journey of a lifetime.

“The 2019 Jamboree, jointly hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, is set to be one of the biggest and most exciting yet.

"The theme is ‘Unlock a new world’ – focusing especially on how we can create a sustainable world together.”
