FOR her support for the Long Live the Local campaign and helping to secure consecutive freezes in beer duty, Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa Huq received a Beer Champion award.

It’s an initiative from the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) to recognise the role of MPs from across the House in supporting Britain’s national drink.

Long Live the Local is again calling for a cut in beer duty in this year’s Budget and more than 90,000 people have signed a petition.

Dr Huq played an active role in the campaign to save the Goldsmiths Arms in Acton.

She said: “We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs in Ealing, Acton and Chiswick, each one providing job opportunities and sitting at the heart of our local community. I will continue to campaign to cut crippling beer duty.”
