A set of controversial parking spaces have been painted correctly and as planned.

Motorists hit out at the "ludicrous" scheme after a number of bays appeared in Station Road, Kings Langley, in July.

Drivers said the placement of the spaces would have a knock-on effect on traffic queuing at the nearby traffic lights.

After the backlash, Three Rivers District Council announced it would not immediately be issuing permits for the spaces and leader of the council, Cllr Sara Bedford said: "at first glance, these spaces appear to be in the wrong place".

John Hodgkins, who lives in Kings Langley, previously told the Observer these spaces were the "most ludicrous idea yet".

He says has since studied the plans in detail and compared it to Google Maps, and although he has "not measured it to the nearest yard", he says the spaces are "near enough where they were projected to be".

He added: "There appears to have been a deafening silence from the council in the hope we will crawl back into our holes and go away."

This week, we went back to the council which confirmed all the bays are correctly marked.

A spokesperson said: "All the bays are marked in the locations that were publicised through the traffic order consultation in June 2018, and as confirmed by the on-street and press notices subsequently published in June 2019. It would not be lawful for any to be located in a different place and none of them have been inaccurately marked.

"The new parking bays on Station Road were designed and modelled by two firms of traffic specialists and were authorised both by the county council and the police.

"The council approved this scheme based on this expert advice and on the results of the public consultation held in June 2018 which was published online and in newspapers.

"We continue to review all feedback received."

Only permit holders will be able to park in the spaces between 9am to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays.
