Newly created parking bays in Kings Langley have been temporarily scrapped from today.

Councillors discussed an urgent report about the new spaces in Station Road which were put in over the summer.

No drivers will be able to park in the the new bays, near Oliver Landpower yard and near Home Park Mill Link Road - and a three week consultation will now take place, by law, to decide the permanent future of the new spaces.

Motorists hit out at Three Rivers District Council's scheme, which was agreed with the police and Hertfordshire County Council.

John Hodgkins, who lives in Kings Langley, described the new spaces as "ludicrous".

Hillingdon Times:

The report, which was discussed by Three Rivers' infrastructure, housing and economic development committee last night (Tuesday), said council officers have been asked to review the parking restrictions "in light of the strength of local concern and problems regarding free flow of traffic" in the vicinity of the new parking bays.

Speaking after the meeting, council leader Sara Bedford said: "Although these parking spaces met all the required criteria on paper, as soon as they were installed it became clear they did not work in practice. I instigated an immediate review and swift action has been taken."

The spaces were for permit holders between the hours of 9am and 5pm with the spaces free to park in for anyone outside those hours.

When initial consultation was carried out, the council received no objections.

When the council was asked how much this parking scheme in Kings Langley had cost, which had been designed by two firms of traffic specialists, a council spokesperson said: "This is part of an ongoing programme which has not been broken down in terms of cost by individual areas across the district and is designed to improve parking availability.

"The parking and enforcement budget is regularly scrutinised to ensure best use of resources."
