One woman shaved her hair off as part of a residents association fundraising event.

Woodside Residents Association (WRA) held a fundraising event on September 21 at the scouts hut in Hope Green, Watford, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer support, a charity which provides information, healthcare and financial support to cancer patients.

During the event, Lorraine Moody, a volunteer for Woodside Residents Association, decided to “brave the shave” and shave her hair off to acknowledge the cancer patients that lose their hair during their cancer treatment.

Ms Moody said: “I am happy that Taylor Murphy and his apprentice Jago from Perception Male Grooming in Abbots Langley kindly attended and donated their time and hair skills for our event.

“Taylor has been brilliant the whole way through this process and shaved my hair off, in front of a big crowd of people, most of which, had not witnessed a ‘brave the shave’ before.”

Guests including Deputy Mayor Karen Collett, Cllr Tim Williams, Cllr Richard Wenham, Cllr Glen Saffery, many residents and family joined the event. They all made donations towards the charity.

Cllr Collett said: “My fellow councillor colleagues and I were delighted to attend the WRA Macmillan Event, we had a lovely afternoon and it was great to see and speak to so many Woodside Residents.

“It was wonderful to see so many people attending and to know that the fundraising was highly successful.”

Attendees were also given an educative presentation by Heather Newey, a volunteer on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support, where she talked about the increase in various cancers and how to be aware of your signs of cancer.

Woodside Residents Association is still calculating the final amount raised, but they have already estimated that they fundraised at least over £1,000.
