Maryport’s Poppy Appeal was launched this week, organised by the town council.

On Monday night councillors prepared to take dozens of boxes of poppies to distribute to businesses and shops around the area.

Mayor Peter Kendall paid tribute to councillor Carol Tindall, saying: “She has done all the organisation and we are really grateful to her.

“I am proud that the council has taken on this important role in the Poppy Appeal.”

Mr Kendall said Remembrance Sunday parades would be held on Sunday, November 10 at Flimby at 10am, and in Maryport at 3pm.

A children’s Remembrance service, led by councillor Linda Radcliffe, will be held at St Mary’s Church on Friday, November 8, involving all the town’s schools.

The council will also hold a reception on the Saturday night for students on training ship HMS Charger who traditionally attend the services.
