MANY people – proudly wearing poppies – braved the cold and took to the streets of Ellesmere on Monday to mark Armistice Day.

Members of the Ellesmere branch of the Royal British Legion joined Ellesmere town councillors, and the Rotary Club of Ellesmere, as well as other local organisations and members of the public to remember the Armed Forces as part of the annual Armistice Day.

Deputy mayor, Councillor Anne Wignall, said: “The Royal British Legion led this morning’s act of Remembrance in the centre of Ellesmere.

“Representatives of the Town Council, Rotary Club, other local organisations and members of the public, observed the two minutes silence.”

Legion branch chairman, Bob McBride, also praised local youth organisations for supporting Sunday’s Remembrance Day parade, church service and wreath-laying ceremony at the town’s war memorial.

“It was a terrific turn-out by our young people and they’re a great credit to the town,” said Bob.

Other people in attendance on Sunday included members of the Guides, Scouts, Brownies, Cubs, Army Cadets and the local Combined Cadet Force.
