A dual level car park will be knocked down to make way for 31 new homes.

Waltham Forest Council planning committee granted permission to demolish the former Lansdowne Road car park in Sansom Road, Leytonstone, at a meeting on Tuesday, November 12.

The residential development, Waltham Forest Council development, will range from five to six storey building.

All 31 of the new homes will be available for social rent – lower than ‘affordable rent’.

The development will also see the council invest £35,000 in walking and cycling infrastructure and renovate the surrounding footways on Sansom Road.

The 1,200 square meter site currently comprises a dual level car park described in the council’s planning document as “of little architectural merit.”

The new building will be brick built and will include internal cycle storage, refuse and recycling, a lift and plant equipment.

Plans include a new access point constructed on the southern end of the site leading into a new internal courtyard on the eastern side of the site which will provide communal amenity space.
