The Environment Agency (EA) is currently responding to an incident which is affecting several miles of river water.

Officers have been called to the River Colne and Hilfield Brook which run through Watford and Bushey.

The EA says the incident involves turbid water - cloudy water caused by large numbers of individual particles.

Investigations have concluded there is a potentially minor impact on the environment.

The EA believes the turbid water is linked to the heavy rainfall mobilising silt and sediment from agricultural land.

No impact on fish has been observed, and water quality testing shows it’s predominantly a visual impact.

Officers are continuing to monitor the incident and the EA will deploy additional resources as necessary, although it does not expect it will be needed.
