A ring of fencing has been erected near The Grove ahead of a NATO summit next week.

With the world's biggest leaders expected at the hotel, including US President Donald Trump, police and security forces are taking no chances.

Already, high metal fencing has gone up along Langleybury Lane near Chandler's Cross, alongside large concrete blocks.

A large area surrounding The Grove will be on lockdown from Monday until the early hours of Thursday morning with roads, canal, and pathways blocked off to the public.

Black security bollards, with a yellow barrier, are already in place in three locations - at either end of Langleybury Lane and in Grove Mill Lane, which will prevent motorists from getting through.

The Grove is a hive of activity as it gets set to host one of the biggest political events in the world on Wednesday December 4.

Police in Watford are warning of disruption to residents and commuters across the town due to the road closures which will be in place.

Watford Chief Inspector Matt Phillips said: “Whilst it is inevitable that such a high profile event will cause some disruption, we aim to ensure that any impact on the local residents and businesses is kept to an absolute minimum and are working closely with our partners to achieve this.

"Increased traffic congestion is anticipated therefore residents and visitors are asked to consider their plans, such as finding alternative means of transport or working from home."

Next week, the following road closures will be in place:

  • Grove Mill Lane, Monday December 2 6am to December 4 8pm
  • Fir Tree Hill and Langleybury Lane, December 3 6am to December 4 8pm
  • Hempstead Road between Hunton Bridge roundabout and Courtlands Drive, December 3 11pm to December 4 11.59pm.

Diversion are via A41 to The Dome roundabout, A412 St Albans Road to Town Hall roundabout and A411 Hempstead Road.

All rights of way across the hotel will be closed from 4pm on December 3 to 8pm on December 4.

The Grand Union and canal path will be closed to boats and pedestrians from Lock 74 to 76 from 2pm on December 2 to 9am on December 5.
